FirstEdge® 6050-6055 Tactical Skinner Hunting & Survival Knife

The FirstEdge® Tactical Skinner fixed-blade knife is ideally suitable for Military, Outdoors and Survival applications. The Knife is renowned for its strength, endurance and ability to perform the most arduous tasks for Military personnel on assignment and for Outdoorsmen and Survivalists out in the field. The Tactical Skinner with a Combo Edge is currently in use by specialized Navy and Marine Corps units.

Featuring the unmatched quality of ELMAX® Swedish stainless steel, the full-tang, 4.375″ blade is a well-proven classic hunting style drop-point. It has been heat treated to a Rockwell hardness of 60-61. For rugged performance, the blade is 0.170” thick and is flat ground with a double bevel for maximum cutting edge. The blade and stainless steel hex fasteners have a black oxide finish.

The Tactical Skinner has an overall length of 9.375” equipped with a striking pommel and lanyard hole. The handles are coarse-textured Black, Green or Tan G-10 material, considered best for toughness, sure grip and resistance to any moisture or temperature extremes.

The Tactical Skinner comes with a Kydex molded sheath, with stainless steel hex fasteners making it ideal for wet or desert conditions. It has 3-inch Nylon Webbing with Box X stitching. An innovative locking system keeps the blade securely anchored in the sheath.

FirstEdge® is proud to offer ELMAX® Steel in our premium knife products. Produced by Bohler-Uddenholm of Sweden, ELMAX® is “High Chromium-Vanadium-Molybdenum” alloyed steel, made of 18% Chromium, 3% Vanadium, 1.7% Carbon, 1% Molybdenum, 0.8%Silicon, and 0.3% Manganese. This composition of metals results in a superior stainless steel alloy with high wear resistance, superior corrosion resistance, and high compressive strength. The ELMAX® advance powder metallurgy technology allows for these rare performance capabilities. The steel is hardened to 60-61 HRC, resulting in excellent edge retention and high impact resistance. It is easily sharpened and holds an edge as well as carbon steel alloy.

Comparative testing of ELMAX® versus other stainless steels show superior performance by ELMAX®. Other steels may perform in one aspect, but are weaker in others: tough but difficult to sharpen; sharp but prone to corrosion and rust; rust-resistant but a softer blade. ELMAX® performs without trade-offs. Using the industry standard, CATRA (Cutlery Allied Trades Research Association), Edge Retention Test, ELMAX® scored higher than other stainless steels at 62 HRC. In the TCC (Total Cards Cut) Test that measures the number of silica impregnated cards that a knife can cut at one time, ELMAX® placed second with 930.7. ELMAX® steel at 61 HRC performed better than other stainless blade steels, even those at 57 HRC, despite the fact that a lower HRC has been viewed as stronger.

ELMAX® steel is ideal for Survival, Outdoor and Underwater applications where high durability, toughness, and corrosion resistance are critical. ELMAX® knives withstand extended exposure to moisture, extreme temperature change, and constant heavy use. Other applications include Hunting, Fishing, and Food Service where sharpness and ease of sharpening and robustness are critical features.

We are extremely proud of our products and sincerely value our customers. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your FirstEdge® experience.  Our Fixed Blade Knives are designed to withstand heavy, extreme use. If your knife fails, we will repair or replace it free of charge, no questions asked – Forever.  Our Folding Knives are tough and are designed for powerful, precision cutting.  If your folding knife fails to perform due to a defect and doesn’t meet your expectations, we will repair or replace your knife free of charge – Forever.  We don’t expect our knives to fail, but if this happens, we will take care of you.

FirstEdge® knives leave the factory razor-sharp.  It is important to maintain the sharpness of the blade, as a dull edge requires more force and poses a danger to the user.  The frequency and manner of use will determine how frequently the knife will need to be sharpened.  Periodic use of an Arkansas Honing Stone will remove burrs and maintain the edge of the blade.  Should the blade remain dull after use of a honing stone, professional sharpening is recommended.

Folding Knives – Remove moisture, dirt, and other impediments from blades, handles, and locking mechanisms after each use.  Cycling of the blade open and closed will assist in removing dust and foreign particles.  Compressed air may be used to dislodge foreign objects.  Periodic application of a light oil, such as WD-40®, Break-Free®, or mineral oil is recommended.  For optimal safety, Folding Knives should always be stored in the closed position.

Fixed Blade Knives – Remove moisture, dirt, and other impediments from sheaths after each use. Compressed air may be used to dislodge foreign objects.  Periodic application of a light oil, such as WD-40®, Break-Free®, or mineral oil is recommended.  For optimal safety, Fixed Blade knives should always be stored securely in their sheaths.
